West Main and Highway 99 in West Medford
This page describes the west-side corridors as geography and public data only. We do not list or rate individual businesses.
The corridors
Interstate 5 runs directly through the center of Medford and crosses Bear Creek and downtown on a viaduct. It opened in 1967 and replaced the old Pacific Highway, which is Highway 99. Wikipedia says Highway 99 still runs through the city's center. In this edition, Interstate 5 is the dividing line: the west side is everything in the city on the west of it, and downtown is on the east. For up-to-date road work and closures, use the Oregon Department of Transportation.
What the Census says about business
The Census Bureau counts business establishments with paid employees by ZIP code. ZIP 97501 had 1,646 in 2023, but that ZIP includes downtown, so it overstates the west side.
For Medford as a whole (ZIPs 97501 and 97504 together, 3,320 establishments), the four largest sectors by establishment count were:
| Sector | Establishments |
|---|---|
| Health care and social assistance | 519 |
| Retail trade | 446 |
| Construction | 376 |
| Lodging and food service | 330 |
We did not find a separate sector breakdown for ZIP 97501 alone, so these are citywide counts and not west-side counts.
